At ChatGPTree.ai, we’re reimagining the digital age with a regenerative mindset. Every AI question comes with a carbon cost—so we built a system to turn those questions into climate action.
Our latest research measures the carbon emissions of AI use down to the token level. For example, a typical ChatGPT-4 query emits approximately 0.00102 kg of CO₂, or 2.29×10⁻⁶ kg per token. Thanks to improved efficiency, ChatGPT-4o cuts that down to 4.21×10⁻⁷ kg per token.
To offset this, we plant one real tree per active user every month. A single Douglas Fir can absorb up to 7.7 kg of CO₂ per year—enough to offset millions of tokens.
